Ladurée macarons meet hamburgers: the Luxemburgerli
It’s a little like when I was younger and traveling, people would always ask me where I was from , I would say “from Switzerland” and 90% of the responds was “oh Sweden … lovely country”…Actually I just found out the confusion is so important someone even made a site about it!!! “Swedennotswitzerland.com“
Same story: Oh Luxemburgerli from Lux… no in fact they are from Zurich!! They are a kind of double macaron with different fillings. They are Sprüngli’s blockbuster and were invented by Camille Studer, who was working at Sprüngli and of Luxembourgish descent.
Today they are such a hit, you can even design your very own Luxemburgeli packaging on myluxemburgerli. Anyway I guess the people from Zurich love these so much because “the city boasts more Sprungli stores than Mcdonaldses”.
I am dreaming of a Damien Hirst Screen print “Lysergic Acid Diethylamide” meets Luxemburgerli for the next Sprüngli window display, maybe around the time of ArtBasel? Can you picture it…
